This course is the first in a two level series intended to develop the skills necessary for the design of steel connections as related to the construction of steel-framed structures. Connections 2 is currently being updated and expected mid 2023.
The course duration is 26 hours in length, comprising of 9 subject modules and 16 total separate video sessions. It presents basic connection design principles and the design of simple welded and bolted connections to CSA S16:19, Design of steel structures. The course is divided into two parts: General Concepts (5 modules) and Standard Connections (4 modules), totaling 9 modules. Each module will present the theory behind the topics covered, working examples, and when practical, an opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned with real-world exercise problems.
The course is intended for:
- structural design consultants
- engineers and draftspersons employed by steel fabrication companies or structural steel drafting and detailing firms
- educators involved in teaching steel detailing courses
Once the course is completed, a Certificate of Completion is issued to the course participant. Access to the training platform is terminated once the course has been completed.
