This combined course provides a structured learning path for the seismic design of steel-framed buildings in Canada. Session 1 establishes the fundamentals of seismic loading, analysis, and code requirements under NBC 2020, while Session 2 addresses the additional design considerations required for moderate to high seismicity, including dynamic analysis, capacity design and performance-based checks. Practical guidance is also given on the selection and layout of the seismic force-resisting system.
Session 1 Course Agenda:
- Module 1: Why Do We Design For Earthquakes in Canada?
- Module 2: Calculation of Seismic Loads According to NBC 2020
- Module 3: Structural Configuration
- Module 4: The Equivalent Static Force Procedure
- Module 5: Deflections and Drift Limits
- Module 6: Stability Requirements
- Module 7: Conventional Construction
- Module 8: Elements of Structures, Non-structural Components and Equipment
- Module 9: Simplified Procedure for Regions of Very Low Seismicity
Session 2 Course Agenda:
- Module 1: The Dynamic Analysis Procedure
- Module 2: Capacity Design
- Module 3: Detailing for Ductility
- Module 4: Selection of SFRS
- Module 5: SFRS Layout
- Module 6: Additional Performance Requirements
Eligibility for CEUs
CEUs will be issued for this webinar to participants that meet the following criteria:
- Participant must attend at least 75% of the webinar
- CEUs are only eligible for a participant with a 90% attention rating. In order to maximize your rating the webinar must be full screen. Working on other things while the webinar is running (i.e. not full attention) minimizes your attention rating. The webinar platform automatically tracks your rating.
- CEUs are issued to the registered contact person only (person with assigned seat)
Notes
- Upon your purchase, you will receive an email to register course participant seat(s). Assignment of your seat is necessary for course registration, a necessary step, even if you have purchased only one. Please check your junk folder if not in your inbox. An email for course material downloads (if applicable), will be provided after checkout.
- This course includes pdf handouts.
- Courses are non-refundable. Once you begin the course, you will have 120 days to complete it.
