Webinar  - 0.075 CEU

Duration: 50 m

Presented by Albert Marskamp, P.Eng., VP, Engineering and Detailing at Walters Group and Ian Lummis, Technical Sales Engineer at ArcelorMittal

The steel industry is in a constant state of evolution, with new, stronger, more sustainable steels providing the pathway for more advanced, efficient, and environmentally friendly steel structures. This presentation will provide a behind the scenes perspective of how new steel grades are developed and safely implemented into the construction industry. We will follow the journey of a new grade of structural steel (ASTM A913 Gr80), which was first introduced in 2019 and has been successfully used in many structures across North America.

The presentation will cover the challenges of developing and working with a new grade of steel, including the initial research and development, introduction to the relevant engineering codes, specification in structural designs, and the physical challenges of cutting, welding, and erecting a new grade of steel.

The story of this journey will be told from the perspective of both the steel producer who introduced the grade, and the fabricator who first implemented this grade on a project. By taking this in depth look at a real-life example, this presentation offers engineers an insight to the advantages and challenges of working with new materials and offers strategies for how project teams can successfully incorporate more advanced and sustainable materials into their future designs.

Eligibility for CEUs

CEUs will be issued for this webinar to participants that meet the following criteria:

  1. Participant must attend at least 75% of the webinar
  2. CEUs are only eligible for a participant with a 90% attention rating. In order to maximize your rating the webinar must be full screen. Working on other things while the webinar is running (i.e. not full attention) minimizes your attention rating. The webinar platform automatically tracks your rating.
  3. CEUs are issued to the registered contact person only (person with assigned seat)

Notes

  1. Upon your purchase, you will receive an email to register the participant seat(s). Assignment of your seat is necessary for webinar registration, a necessary step, even if you have purchased only one. Please check your junk folder if not in your inbox.
