Building on the foundational knowledge from Part 1, this course delves deeper into advanced topics in the dynamic analysis of steel structures for seismic design. Participants will explore response history analysis (RHA) and response spectrum analysis (RSA), including practical applications using STAAD.Pro software.
Course Agenda:
- Introduction: Learning objectives & symbolic convention
- Module 5: Response history analysis (RHA) background
- Module 6: Selecting and scaling ground motion records
- Module 7: Application of RHA in STAAD.Pro
- Module 8: Response spectrum analysis (RSA) background
- Module 9: Application of RSA in STAAD.Pro
- Module 10: Comparison to equivalent static force procedure
- Closure: Review of learning objectives
Learning Objectives:
- Select and scale ground motion records to accurately represent the NBC 2020 seismic design spectrum using the PEER NGA Database
- Competently describe and differentiate between response history analysis (RHA) and response spectrum analysis (RSA)
- Apply the response history analysis (RHA) procedure to a multi-storey building with steel framing using STAAD.Pro
- Apply the response spectrum analysis (RSA) procedure to a multi-storey building with steel framing
- Describe the differences the dynamic analysis procedures and the equivalent static procedure (ESFP)
- Explain how dynamic analysis methods can significantly reduce the computed force demands on the seismic force resisting system
Eligibility for CEUs
CEUs will be issued for this webinar to participants that meet the following criteria:
- Participant must attend at least 75% of the webinar
- CEUs are only eligible for a participant with a 90% attention rating. In order to maximize your rating the webinar must be full screen. Working on other things while the webinar is running (i.e. not full attention) minimizes your attention rating. The webinar platform automatically tracks your rating.
- CEUs are issued to the registered contact person only (person with assigned seat)
Notes
- Upon your purchase, you will receive an email to register course participant seat(s). Assignment of your seat is necessary for course registration, a necessary step, even if you have purchased only one. Please check your junk folder if not in your inbox. An email for course material downloads (if applicable), will be provided after checkout.
- This course includes pdf handouts.
- Courses are non-refundable. Once you begin the course, you will have 90 days to complete it.
