This course provides an in-depth examination of the stability behaviour and design of overhanging steel girders. Participants will begin with an overview of overhanging girder systems, including their advantages, common applications, and key design challenges. The course then reviews recent experimental and numerical research that has advanced the understanding of gerber girder behaviour and stability performance.

Building on this foundation, the course introduces proposed design guidelines addressing flexural capacity, the effects of tension-flange holes, and bracing requirements. Participants will learn how these recommendations can be applied in practice to improve the safety and efficiency of steel gerber girder design.

A detailed design example will demonstrate the complete process from loading and structural analysis through to final design. The course concludes with a demonstration of the CISC Cloud Solutions Gerber/Overhanging Girder module, our new steel design tool that automates and streamlines the analysis, design, and optimization of overhanging steel girders.

Eligibility for CEUs

CEUs will be issued for this webinar to participants that meet the following criteria:
