Duration: 57 m

Presented by Sébastien Galipeau, ing. and Etienne Gill-Lachance, ing.

In 2024, the Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable began replacing a reinforced concrete structure that had reached the end of its service life. The new road alignment posed significant challenges for bridge construction.

First, the valley was wider at this location. Additionally, environmental constraints, as well as issues concerning the stability of the rock face, made it impossible to install permanent structures in the river or near its shores.

Finally, due to the steep slopes and the valley’s depth, mobilizing a crane at the bottom of the valley would have been extremely complex. The arch emerged as a solution to efficiently span the valley, leveraging the outcropping rock as support, while offering the opportunity to carry out the entire installation from the cliff edges. From the outset of the design, the swing method was identified as the most suitable construction method for erecting the structure.
