Seismic Design of Steel-Framed Buildings Session 2: Considerations for Moderate to High Seismicity
Session 2 - 0.10 CEU
Duration: 1 h 14 min
This is the second session of a two-part webinar.

Building on the seismic design concepts introduced in Session 1, this course explores the additional requirements for steel structures in regions of moderate to high seismicity. Participants will learn how to evaluate seismic demands using dynamic analysis and apply capacity design principles to achieve predictable structural behavior.
The course also explains how ductile detailing requirements influence system performance and provides practical guidance on selecting and laying out seismic force-resisting systems. In addition, it addresses the additional performance requirements newly introduced in NBC 2020, which aim to prevent structural damage during more frequent, lower-intensity earthquakes.
Course Agenda:
Module 1: The Dynamic Analysis Procedure
Module 2: Capacity Design
Module 3: Detailing for Ductility
Module 4: Selection of SFRS
Module 5: SFRS Layout
Module 6: Additional Performance Requirements
Prerequisite: Participants are expected to complete Seismic Design of Steel-Framed Buildings Session 1 — Introduction – CISC Steel Store before registering for this course.
Eligibility for CEUs
CEUs will be issued for this webinar to participants that meet the following criteria:
- Participant must attend at least 75% of the webinar
- CEUs are only eligible for a participant with a 90% attention rating. In order to maximize your rating the webinar must be full screen. Working on other things while the webinar is running (i.e. not full attention) minimizes your attention rating. The webinar platform automatically tracks your rating.
- CEUs are issued to the registered contact person only (person with assigned seat)
Notes
- Upon your purchase, you will receive an email to register course participant seat(s). Assignment of your seat is necessary for course registration, a necessary step, even if you have purchased only one. Please check your junk folder if not in your inbox. An email for course material downloads (if applicable), will be provided after checkout.
- This course includes pdf handouts.
- Courses are non-refundable. Once you begin the course, you will have 90 days to complete it.
