This course offers an in-depth introduction to the dynamic analysis of steel structures specifically for seismic design. Participants will gain a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of structural dynamics and how they apply to the seismic design of steel-framed buildings.
Course Agenda:
- Introduction: Learning objectives & symbolic convention
- Module 1: Fundamentals of structural dynamics
- Module 2: Example building and project site
- Module 3: Mass and rigid diaphragm modelling
- Module 4: Dynamic properties and minimum base shear
- Closure: Review of learning objectives
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the free-vibration, harmonic, and earthquake response of single-degree-of-freedom systems
- Describe how the response multiple-degree of freedom systems can be quantified using the modal superposition of representative single-degree-of-freedom system responses
- Obtain NBC 2020 seismic hazard data using the 2020 National Building Code of Canada Seismic Hazard Tool
- Model mass and rigid diaphragms in a 3D structural analysis model using STAAD.Pro.
- Extract natural periods and mode shapes from the 3D structural analysis model and calculate minimum base shear values
Designed for engineers and professionals in the field, this course will equip attendees with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform dynamic analysis and ensure their designs meet seismic safety standards NBC 2020 code requirements.
Eligibility for CEUs
CEUs will be issued for this webinar to participants that meet the following criteria:
- Participant must attend at least 75% of the webinar
- CEUs are only eligible for a participant with a 90% attention rating. In order to maximize your rating the webinar must be full screen. Working on other things while the webinar is running (i.e. not full attention) minimizes your attention rating. The webinar platform automatically tracks your rating.
- CEUs are issued to the registered contact person only (person with assigned seat)
Notes
- Upon your purchase, you will receive an email to register course participant seat(s). Assignment of your seat is necessary for course registration, a necessary step, even if you have purchased only one. Please check your junk folder if not in your inbox. An email for course material downloads (if applicable), will be provided after checkout.
- This course includes pdf handouts.
- Courses are non-refundable. Once you begin the course, you will have 90 days to complete it.
